Historic Brattonsville – Hog Butchering Day
1444 Brattonsville Road, McConnells, SC

Our annual Hog Butchering Day highlights the age-old tradition of butchering and preserving pork for survival.

Costumed interpreters will butcher two hogs and preserve the meat using 19th century techniques. They will also demonstrate many of the processes associated with butchering such as rendering lard, making “cracklins,” and soap. The Historic Cooking Guild of the Catawba Valley will cook many familiar (and not so familiar) pork dishes – just as our ancestors did.

Spoons BBQ Truck will provide food concessions throughout the day. So come on out and enjoy the sights and smells. It promises to be an educational and entertaining day.

Adults $8; Seniors $7; Youth 4-17 $53 and under and Culture & Heritage Museums (CHM) members free
