Visit with Clover native and author, Ms. Mable Hemphill, at an exclusive book signing. Mable was born & raised in Clover and was part of the first integration group in the Clover School District. Ms. Hemphill has written a book, “Sharecropper,” which is part memoir and part history lesson. Other achievements include: NAACP AWARD for her work on homelessness and race relations; ECKERD DRUG STORES SALUTE TO 100 WOMEN for her work on homelessness and women’s issues; CITY OF GASTONIA, North Carolina, for her work in volunteerism to combat homelessness; GASTON COUNTY for her work in volunteerism to combat homelessness and women’s issues; CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CITY OF GASTONIA AND GASTON COUNTY as BUSINESS ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR for her work in starting the Minority Business Development Corp which assisted all women and minorities in starting small business; 1994 Entrepreneur of the Year Award; Selected to work on the White-House Conference on Small Business under President Bill Clinton.
